OntarioPaddling the Kickapoo River in a canoe or kayak is a treat for area visitors, and with three livery services, Ontario proudly bills itself as the “Canoe Capital of the Kickapoo.” The limestone bluffs near Ontario provide incredible scenery and a glimpse at an ancient river system. River trips can be as short as a couple of hours or a week-long adventure, if you choose to paddle to river’s end as it joins the Wisconsin. Ontario is nine miles south of the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail, part of the Rails-to-Trails project and featuring three unique tunnels on its 32-mile length. Just east of the village is Wildcat Mountain State Park, and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve lies to its south. For further information, contact the Ontario Village Clerk—(608) 337-4381 |
