Ferryville

Ferryville has designated itself “A Place for All Seasons” with good reason. Situated at one of the Mississippi River’s widest points, the village is an excellent spot for game fishing, ice fishing, hunting, and water sports. The bluffs above the village offer a panoramic vista that is unmatched.

The rebuilt boat landing offers handicap-accessible ramps and docks, and Sugar Creek Park has camping facilities with electrical hook-ups and lavatories. River View Park is a new observation deck, complete with telescope; it’s the perfect place for watching migratory birds and bald eagles. It’s also a popular spot for train watchers to observe the many trains on the double tracks of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad line.

River View Park features a historical marker commemorating native son Patrick J. Lucey, who served as Wisconsin’s Governor from 1971 to 1977.  The deck overlooks Lake Winneshiek, a wide expanse of the Mississippi River lying above Lock & Dam #9 at Lynxville, just 10 miles south.  Operated by the Corp of Engineers and open to the public, the Lock and Dam offers an observation platform to watch tugboats and barges in the process of “locking through.”
